Cans for Camps

We have had several of our CUMC kids go to camp and our church helps by paying half. Many of the camps are several hundred dollars and some of our families have more than one camper.  Did you know that the cans from the pop machine get redeemed to support our camp funds?  Please continue to collect and store your redeemable cans and bottles at home and we will announce a date for the can trailer collection day again soon.

Christian Education News from Karen Adams

Sunday School:  Children are encouraged to leave worship during the last hymn for Sunday School. Kindergarten through 5th graders begin with an Opening time in the music room at 10:30 a.m. where they sing songs, watch the Bible story for the day and get any announcements.  On the first Sunday of the month, birthdays for the month are recognized with special birthday cookies!  (Thank you Sandy Powers!)  At 10:45 a.m., the children are dismissed to their classrooms. Preschoolers have their music time at approximately 10:50 a.m. so they go to their room right at 10:30 a.m. All other classes, 6th through adults, begin at 10:40.

Participation in Sunday School, Outstanding Attendance and Perfect Attendance will be recognized at the end of the year.  Those who have attended Sunday School 80% of the Sundays will be recognized for Outstanding Attendance. If you are out of town and attend another church, bring back a bulletin, give to your Sunday School teacher and it will be marked as present.

Substitute teachers are also needed. Please let the office know if you would be willing to be on the list. You can always say no if you are not available.  It’s nice to have a variety of names to call.

Adult Class:  The apostle Paul wrote 13 out of 26 books in the New Testament.  The Christ Connection Adult Sunday School plans to study Paul’s writings in chronological order beginning with his letter to the Galatians. Join us on 10/31 for a 6-week Bible study entitled Galatians: Accepted and Free by Jada Edwards.  God’s acceptance through Christ alone brings healing and wholeness, renewal and revival.  We can experience the freedom to live lives that bear spiritual fruit.  The study guide uses video teaching, group discussion, and personal study of Scripture through the Book of Galatians to connect to your daily life, today.  Books are $12 and available at the church office or in the Blue Room during class.

Children to sing in Church: The children will be singing and/or ringing in church on October 31 and November 28 after the children’s message. Please have your children meet at 9:15 a.m. in the chapel to practice.

Noisy Offering: The children will be collecting a “Noisy Offering” each last Sunday following their singing and ringing. They will come around the congregation and collect any loose change that you may have. The next noisy offering will be Sunday, October 31 and will support MUMM (Mobile United Methodist Missionaries). MUMM will use the funds for next year’s VBS, Christmas gifts for JOY camp families who might need a little extra cheer and next year’s JOY camp.

Advent Party:  On November 28 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. children ages preschool-5th grade are invited to come prepare for Advent by making crafts and gifts, hearing stories and watching “The Star” movie.  The children will make gifts for family members if they choose to.  Lots of volunteers will be needed to help in the various rooms. Parents, you are welcome to drop off your kids and take this time to do some preparing for the season also. Youth in grades 6-12 are encouraged to come help.

Christmas Program:  The Christmas program will be on December 12 during worship.  There is a team being formed to plan this meaningful program. Let Karen know if you would like to be a part of this planning team. Each Sunday in November and the first Sunday in December, Sunday School will be extended by 15 minutes to allow for more time to rehearse for the program. Program practice will be from 10:30-11:00 a.m. and classes will be held from 11:00-11:45 a.m. This applies for preschool through high school.

Epiphany Party: Tentative date: Sunday, January 2 (four days before Epiphany) Charley and Drew Johnson will be planning since they had the hidden pieces in the cake at our last party. Watch for details on what the boys plan.
