Our Committees at Central UMC are:
Church Council
The Church Council, sometimes spoken of as the Ad Council is the primary administrative body and decision-making group of the local church carrying out the business of the Charge Conference. This Council is also responsible to help the congregation keep on the mission of making disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Chairs of various committees and boards along with at large members make up this body. Our Council usually meets the third Wednesday of the month.
Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC)
The Staff Parish Relations Committee is responsible for consulting with the pastor regarding relationships between the staff and the congregation. When personnel issues arise the SPRC works with the pastor to resolve them. The committee is to encourage and respect the pastor and staff, and then promote unity. The SPRC is to develop and approve job descriptions for the staff and this is the committee that consults with the superintendent when pastoral changes are to be made. The SPRC meets in closed session and information shared in the committee shall be confidential. Our SPRC usually meets on the first Wednesday evening of the month.
Board of Trustees
The board of trustees is the group of men and women in the church that are responsible for the property of the church. With a beautiful old building like Central Church and our somewhat “newer” education wing, fellowship hall and office complex, that can be a daunting task. Recently they played a key role in preparing for and overseeing the capital campaign projects that included the sanctuary and education building roofs, the extensive work done to preserve our three large stained glass windows, and the construction of our parking lot. They are responsible for the upkeep of our grounds, as well as our buildings. Our trustees have an ongoing project list and invite our congregation to volunteer to assist with this various projects. Our Board of Trustees usually meets at 6:30 on the second Wednesday evening of the month.
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee of Central Church prepares a yearly budget and reviews detailed reports of receipts and expenses that our church has each month. While the committee sees reports of giving, they do not have access to private donor information. A member of this committee meets together with our financial secretary to count our weekly offerings. This committee provides a check and balance system to see that we are good stewards of the financial gifts entrusted to our church. They keep track of our financial status of our congregation. Our Finance Committee usually meets at 6:00 on the second Wednesday of the month.
Christian Education Committee
The Christian Education Committee maintains and creates new opportunities for children, youth, adults and families. This involves recruiting and nurturing teachers, reviewing curriculum and evaluating the education ministry while making adjustments and planning for the future. Our Education Committee usually meets at 6:00 on the second Wednesday of the month.
Worship Committee
The worship committee meets to plan, discuss, and evaluate the worship experiences we offer at Central Church. This committee plans and schedules special worship services for the different seasons of the Church year and makes an effort to include a variety of persons in our worship through instrumental and vocal music, ushering, drama, greeting, lectors, A/V techs, communion servers, etc. Our worship committee meets a few times a year.
Bridge Event Committee
Our Bridge Event Committee is one of the newer committees of our church for the purpose of planning and carrying out events to form a bridge of relationships of persons from our congregation with persons in our community that may not have a relationship with a local church. While this group certainly needs to be praying as we prepare to build bridges we do not engage in public praying or preaching at these events. Examples include our fishing derby, bike ride on the trail, fall festival with trunk or treat, and carnival at Penn Mall. This committee does not have a regularly scheduled time to meet, but meets periodically to make arrangements for the events we plan.
